Tote Bored is one of my mini web dev projects, both to learn how to make a blog-style website and to align it with something I'm interested in. I've never been a blogger and I've never been a web developer, but I'm here doing both. Feel free to roast me along the way!!
I moved to Florida for an internship and got set up in my apartment with a futon, tv, and cable package (old school right?). That was when I found TVG: one of probably 300 channels in my cable package which was dedicated to broadcasting live horse racing every day. Who watches this stuff?? Apparently, I do.
It was around the time of the Kentucky Derby that year when I downloaded the TVG app, where you can watch the races on your phone or computer and gamble on the races as well. Being able to predict the winner of a race for just $2, follow along live, and even win once or twice, was exciting. Let the fun begin.
Here we are in 2025, and the horse racing bug keeps biting each year. This time, it collides with my attempt to pick up web development in my free time. With horse racing being something that I have paid attention to off-and-on for 8 years, and with roughly 8 months of teaching myself web development, I'm going to put this out there and have fun with it.
You might ask: why not just make an Instagram or TikTok account instead of putting all the work in to do a separate website? Truth is, I don't use social media anymore and Tote Bored will only ever live right here as well. No ads, algorithms, etc. Just you, me, and some bad bets.
I hope you have fun reading and following along. Time to pick some winners!
